I don't have any complaints with the current version of Safari. (the version that came with Leopard)

I hope it works better after the "improvements" though. We know how that can go wrong.

I downloaded Webkit and I'm using it now (too soon to comment on speed).

The .dmg also contained "Drosera", an application.  Am I supposed to do anything with it?

My complaint about Safari (version 3.0.4 using Tiger) isn't a lack of speed, but too many crashes

Looks like Drosera is for debugging Javascript - so unless you're doing that, I doubt you'll need it, Tom!

I downloaded Webkit too!
It's the fastest browser i've ever used!!

And the best thing is that it's Safari! Unlike Omniweb which my friend has been trying to get me to use because it's faster, Webkit is fast, and it's hidden under Safari which has all my bookmarks and stuff that syncs up with .mac (which is why i use Safari, because of the .mac sync)!

I highly recommend it for EVERYONE!

Just downloaded it and am cruising around (it uses all my Safari settings, cookies etc. - totally transparent switch over) and OMG - this thing zooms!!! Thanks for the heads up, Kris. If it's reasonably stable in longer term use, I think I'll be using this instead of Safari 3.04! BTW - it works in Tiger as well as Leopard.

Ok, when will it be out of the beta stage??? I skimmed the articles, didn't see a dated prediction. That's tough to scoop, I guess.

I'm not so sure I want to try the "practice" version.

Gregg, you can download it and try it out without anything happening to your existing Safari install - it's separate, but uses the same bookmarks etc. It's just a little confusing when you have BOTH of them open as they're identical in look and the menu says Safari, not Webkit.

The main reason I got away from using Safari was the massive memory leak.  I believe that most browsers leak, but, Safari is just to much.  Also, although I like Omniweb, it is severe as well memory wise.  Never had a problem with stability with Safari.

Well, Al, doesn't look to me that the memory leak issue has entirely gone away with Webkit. It was the number one memory user when I checked a minute or so ago - ahead of Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Mail, iPhoto and miles ahead of Firefox. That was just with 4 windows open.

I love all the extensions in Firefox and the fact that it actually remembers logins way better than Safari, but there is something about the Safari look that I like better. So for now, I use both. Indecisive? Moi?

It is nice and speedy.... But, WOW!  After a while of use, from under 100 MB to over 230 MB and still growing.

My pita thing about this is having to restart Safari every so often due to over bloating and slowing itself down.

I know what your saying Paddy, so far, I use Firefox and Safari the most.  Firefox mostly.  I have tried Camino, Omniweb, Netscape and Shiira.  There okay.  But, Omniweb scared me, during the trial period I actually had it crash.  1st time in I can't remember when that a browser crashed.  Making me unwilling to buy the software.  Why did it scare me?  Cause I really liked it....lol
