there's a graphics update too!
didn't download it yet
but my friend (mastercheif91) said that you can turn off the translucent menu bar and make it solid, or you can keep it translucent.
This account isn't hacked...
I'm actually back from hiatus (and its about darn time too)!

Woohoo - fixed Stacks! (I wanted my lists back!) biggrin.gif And the menu bars, as Parker notes:

Apple is obviously listening. smile.gif

Well...sort of - they still limit the number of items that will show in a folder to 100. Which doesn't quite cut it for me, unfortunately. My apps folder is bigger than that. Oh well.

translucent menu bar

????
Gotta look for that preference pane.

I suppose there will be a Software Update notice popping up on Mac screens everywhere...

I wonder whether it will "fix" the problem I'm having with disappearing external drives when I go from 10.5 to 10.5.1?  I don't wonder enough to mess with it today but I wonder!   Thinking.gif

My son called to be sure I knew about the update, mentioning the Dock and Dock folder fixes. He had to hang up so I didn't get any other info about new stuff. I was hoping that the 'disappearing folder list' in a Finder window would be fixed. If you have column view with a folder showing its contents and drag something into it, the contents list disappears since the last thing selected was the item you just dragged into that folder. The contents are OK, including the item just placed in it but there is now nothing selected in the column where that item was originally.

If an external device is 'ejected,' it usually results in the entire window closing, also. wallbash.gif

Greg,

NEVER UPDATE YOUR SYSTEM USING SOFTWARE UPDATE!! (Caps intentional). Many of us tried that approach and rann into a world of hurt - se Bruce F's thread today. I found that using the Combo update for all system upgrades works best.

Thanks for the advice "Mary Jo". I'll be cautious. I think I did use it once already.

Does anyone know if Leopard supposedly fixed the problem with Software Update?

Maybe 10.5.2 does. toothgrin.gif

There's always that 10%! tease.gif 10% use Software Update and never have problems. 10% use Cpmbo Updaters and never have problems. 10% have problems either way. wallbash.gif These figures are accurate to winthin 20 percentage points. laugh.gif

I just installed .2 and had the installer freeze with the "...a Restart will be required..." panel showing. Let it run over 20 minutes and could hear the HD doing something. Force Quit wouldn't stop the Installer. Activity monitor showed the Installer and Login controller as not responding. Quit both from within AM, restarted in Safe Mode and successfully installed on the second try. Nothing ill has happened so far. Airport connection is strong, don't have any Bluetooth devices to check.

One rarely used method of using Software Updater might make a difference when doing multiple updates. After UNchecking any update you don't want, use the "Update->Download Only" menu function. Then use Safe Mode to do each update one at a time, with a restart and Safe Mode until all updates have been done. This will prevent any updater to be running while another one might be and it prevents any non-Apple software from running till the updates are complete.

Couple hours later: Lost Internet connection (via Airport Extreme v1) completely. Airport power 'bar' showed all gray! Went to Network, confirmed that Airport was selected and active. Clicked "Advanced" to get to the IP/TCP info and asked to Renew the Lease. That seemed to work fine and all is well now.

Except...

I cannot connect to Judy's iBook. I had earlier seen the warning that it was about to "Disconnect" but it didn't actually do that. After the update to 10.5.2, I don't seem able to connect at all. Checked I had her IP address correct. Using the Go->Browse shows both her Mac and the laser that is connected to he Airport BS. However, selecting her machine offers only to "Share Screen" which I don't think is really possible since she is still using Tiger.

Well, I can now connect to her Mac! dntknw.gif Must be just certain hours that it's not available! tease.gif blueeek.gif fool.gif

I did the software update and it ate my iDisk.  Took me an hour to finally get it back.  Other than that, I think everything is okay.
