What I found particularly interesting/weird in this article:

QUOTE
The StatCounter analysis finds that Microsoft Internet Explorer still leads the browser market overall with 44.5 percent market share in the US. But it’s facing real competition from open source based Firefox which grew to 43.9 percent of the US browser market. Globally Internet Explorer is well ahead at 59 percent with Firefox on 33 percent.

I'm not quite sure where they get these figures, as they don't match what I've seen elsewhere, like:

http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp
http://www.e-janco.com/browser.htm

or in the browser stats for my own sites. (Our school site is over 80% IE, 8.6% Safari and 8.1% Firefox). Also, one of the FF head honchos, posting in his own blog in November, 2007 said that Firefox was MORE widely used in Europe and China than it was in the US.

A report from July, 2007 on European use of FF: http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2007/07/firefox...hare-in-europe/
Another report from February: http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=0

It's a pretty wide variation, which certainly calls into question just WHAT statistics these various sources are collecting.
