Faxing with OSX
« on: March 27, 2008, 01:01:18 PM »
This is kind of a continuing inquiry from the post originally started by hingyfan under "missing modem". The fact that you could fax from osx simply by using the "fax pdf" option in the print menu was very enlightening toothgrin.gif

My question(s) is/are:  How do you include a cover page?? huh.gif

1: I have tried the cover page option filling in the appropriate box(s) but still only receive the opened document(MSword)or MSexcel.  ( I do have 2 fone lines and a fax machine to test it) wallbash.gif

2: The cover letter I normally  use for the external fax  is an AW6 drawing file. Short of making two fax calls from the mac is it possible to include this cover letter with a single fax ie: AW6 file and a MSword file for example. Groaner.gif

3: Are there settings someplace to provide error info in the event of a failed call?? and redial in the event of a busy signal. complain.gif

Daryl, are you using 10.4.11? According to this thread (read to the end), it's an issue in 10.4.11:

I have no way of testing this in 10.5.2 as I only have one phone line, but I haven't seen any complaints about this issue in Leopard.

I guess the old saying "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" applies here. Hurt.gif

I am using 10.4.11 and both of those threads hit the nail right on the head. Guess I will just have to make due with what we have been doing (stand alone fax) or  send single file faxes with no cover until I bite the bullet and upgrade to Leopard.

Thanks Paddy.

Faxing is a royal pain with a computer, so I just go to my local bank and they will fax anything I need for free, which is indeed rare, but nice.
Complete with dog biscuits.

Daryl, could you make templates for Word docs that include the AW info at the beginning? Then when you know you are going to create something you want to fax you could start with that template?

Kris:

Yes  I have considered doing that in the event that "she" opts to pursue it before we upgrade to Leopard. We have been living with the stand-alone fax for years so it has not reached "emergency mode" at all.  toothgrin.gif
Word is only one of about 5 different programs that would require templates.

Thanks
