Miraculous healing of LCD by G4 Powermac!
« on: April 07, 2008, 08:05:40 AM »
I bought a 15" Hyundai LCD display for a modest amount from a friend who bought it online and found it had a single pixel that was permanently green and is especially visible on dark backgrounds.  I saw this in the shop when it was hooked to a PC and thought it wasn't that bad so I bought it.  Then I took it home and hooked it to my G4 Powermac (Quicksilver) that I have in my bedroom.  This pixel is normal under any resolution and any background color I can throw at it.  I took my PC laptop and hooked it up to the display and toggled over to it and the green pixel is there under XP.  Don't know what to make of this!  Any one else?   Thinking.gif

Weird. Stuck pixels, unlike dead pixels, can fix themselves over time - or be fixed through various methods. Sometimes.

It's possible that it's something to do with the Apple firmware/video card...??

I wonder if it isn't the horizontal drive rate being different on the video card (it's a nVidia GeForce2 MX I think) with a MAC OS!  I just thought it was kind of interesting to see this happen!

Probably just 'stuck' not dead. The different sweep rates may also help. Could it even be the exact same memory bit in both those PC's? eek2.gif Nah!

I seem to remember a program made specifically to slap these stuck pixels "up side the head." I think that's called 'percussive maintenance!' wallbash.gif Seems to have worked on old model TVs... Anyway, the program would cycle through the three colors as fast as possible hoping to exercise the stuck pixel enough to get its attention and work properly. Probably was in OS 9! eek2.gif

When I worked in a Mac shop here locally and we'd get a laptop in with 'dead or stuck' pixels, we'd don a white cotton glove and massage the pixel... 9 out of 10 times that was all it would take to correct the problem.  YMMV.
