Firefox 2.0 behaving badly
« on: April 07, 2008, 10:30:41 PM »
The full version designator is 2.0.0.13 and I'm running OS 10.3.9 on my G4 MDD w/ 1Gb Ram.

Several times in the last week or so after surfing 'normally' for a while, I have noticed some web page or other apparently taking forEVER to load and then trying others, which also seem not to load promptly [I have a 1.5 MBs cable connection, so  I'm accustomed to sites and pages just 'popping up' more often than not] and several times I have fired up Safari 1.3 and discovered that the same sites/pages are working fine.

If I then quit Firefox [a couple o' times it has quit on its own while I was 'sperimenting w/ Safari], it will run just dandy until the next time it gets r-e-a-l s-l-u-g-g-i-s-h.

I wonder if this is a Panther Thang, sintz this is the latest and greatest FF version [AFAIK] and 10.3.9 is getting pretty 'long in the tooth' in OSX evolution.

Any Bunny else notice FF 2.0.0.13 wonkiness [on 10.3.9, or any other OS version]?

TIA for any responses,

sew,

thnask for the additional data. Even though it it does not 'answer the question' fully, it does give me the info that it's NOT the FF/OS versions interaction per se...

No real answers yet, but people at the Mozilla forums have complained about it running slowly in Leopard.

And complained about it very recently with slightly older versions installed too.

In fact, if you search for "Firefox + slow" at the Mozilla forums, you'll get 30 pages of results! And yes, there are a number of Mac users complaining too; it's not all XP and Vista users.

Have you updated any plugins lately?

I am running 10.4.11 and FF 2.0.0.12. Yesterday...it locked up on me unexpectedly. I had to do a Force Quit to finally get out of it. This has happened a few times before.

I've had that version of Firefox "lockup" on both a G4 Quicksilver and a G5 iMAC w/iSight under 10.4.11 or so!  I had thought it was a problem with a plugin at least at home (although I'm not there right now so I can't tell which it might be).  You might try downloading the latest complete and reinstalling the whole thing!

Ohh, I guess misery does love company. smile.gif

I'm "happy" to hear others have had FF lock up on them. In my case it is a continuous spinning wheel that can't be force quit. Actually had to restart the puter.

Gone back to Camino and Safari.  wink.gif

I'm running ff 2.0.0.13 and Tiger 10.4.8 on my Quicksilver 2002 with only a very rare problem.

Been running great lately.

FF 2.0.0.13 and Leopard here. No problems other than the inability to connect some sites (including TS) at some times. The only thing that may be different in my use is that I don't use FF (or any other browser) to maintain any bookmarks and I have all its caches set to zero. Having zero cached content does put a load on the browser everytime a new page is downloaded but it may help prevent corruption in that area. dntknw.gif

Really can't compare to other browsers as it has been weeks since I used another one.
