Saw this out near the driveway. Not sure of the kind...I think it is a Crimson Crested Woodpecker. Never seen one this large before. Also saw some bees and wasps...ohhh stay away! I am soooo ready for spring...bring it on!  toothgrin.gif

I'm from your area and I saw my first cardinal back on February 11th. That didn't seem to have stopped those 20 inches of snow from falling a couple of weeks ago!

We have Cardinals in NorEast Ohio all winter long. They are beautiful on the snow covered tree branches.

It's already spring in Sedona AZ. Every day the last couple of weeks, the temperature has been in the 70s and SUNNY.
Gorgeous with the red rocks.

When we return home on April Fools day, spring should start popping.

Don't think this is a Crimson-Crested Woodpecker...  "Range - From Panama south to the Guianas and Trinidad"...

More likely a Pileated whos 'territory' covers a good deal of the eastern to midwestern US and Canada..

Great photo!

Somehow it strikes me funny that seeing a "I'll put holes in your house" woodpecker encourages all of us. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Our evenings/mornings are back down into the 30's and they are talking snow around 500 ft. Last week I ran around in a jacket since the temps were 40-50. Go figure.

I am really ready for spring this year, and I've not had the snow that so many of you are dealing with.

Thanks Bob...I looked it up, but not much of a bird identifier. It's a pretty one for sure.

Saw my first sign of spring today while picking up debris in my yard from the last few storms. Unfortunately it was a pile of feathers signaling the return of those hawks. dry.gif

yep, that's probably a Pileated Woodpecker.

We have a mating couple that's around here... they have a huge range from their nest. Last year, we had a baby Pileated Woodpecker in our yard several times, it was just hilarious to watch it learn how to bore into things... and also learn it's call. When those birds start to bore into a tree it sounds like a cannon! Much louder than the Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers that we also have. FYI, Roy, the Pileated is typically as big as a crow!

Still over 2 feet of snow in the yard, 5-7" incoming today, I don't care, I'm not plowing!!!

We have some around here and our neighbor tells us that they were after our roof. Now we have to have Daniel come over and climb up there and check it out. dry.gif

One year I had a woodpecker who either was far-sighted or in love with my TV antenna. The sound it made pecking on it reverberated throughout the house.

Sounded like this might if he were on metal...

That's how they 'broadcast /stake their territory'....

We had one that loved our downspouts.... what a racket that made at 5:30 each morning jawdrop.gif ... but he and his true love were the only ones around for blocks..
