It would take lots of air pressure to suck you back to the top! eek2.gif
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

We had a similar device (without the clear half) at the school where I attended 4 - 5 grade. Since I lived directly across the street, it was always available for 'experiments' during off-days and Summers! Even in Summer, it was pretty cool at the top because the tube was shaded by huge oaks, of course, it was also pretty dark since the 'slide' was totally enclosed! smile.gif I figured I was perfoming a civic duty by keeping the fire escape effective by keeping the slide slick! laugh.gif

Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

Never sure when to take you literally... at the school, as you say, or on the school building?

If the latter, how'd you get up to the top? nono.gif

They were 'safety chutes' for fire evacuations....  A lot of the 'multi-storied' schools in the area had them until the late 40's or early 50's.

Until they were deemed 'unsafe' by the powers-that-be or the powers behind the powers-that-be whistling.gif

I can remember, like xABD, keeping them 'polished' and cobweb free during the summers.... it was 'hard work' climbing up them from the bottom with your tennis shoes pressed against the sides to get you up till you decided you were high enough or just couldn't take any more... toothgrin.gif

You NEVER wanted to go in a group and attract the attention of the local constabulary agents, who frowned mightily on the 'maintenance' you were doing  judge.gif

Ah, for the simpler times!!

Nor did you want to be the first one out in a real emergency! Chances were great that you'd be buried by your classmates jumping in too soon and landing on top of you before you could scramble out of the way in the dust or mud (always one or the other) at the bottom! eek2.gif scram.gif bump.gif
