Trouble accessing internet - red-face time!
« on: May 15, 2008, 07:10:02 AM »
My ISP email service can also be accessed as webmail; logged on from work and it came up with password being wrong (it was one letter and nine digits); tried again and again. "Forgotten password?" message. It came up with a couple of security questions and then let me change the password. Fine. Check email, go home. Looking back, I think I'd managed to transpose two digits, and then repeated the error.

Boot up Mac. Can't get online. Network status shows all OK up to ISP and internet. Spend best part of a day checking cables, phone line, Netgear settings, and anything else I can think of. Nowt, nothing, zilch, no connection.

Then, looking at Netgear settings, it slowly registered that changing the password for email had also changed the password for the Netgear to access the ISP. Change password in Netgear window to match new one and voila! it works. thumbup.gif

Then had to change password in Mail so that it didn't keep asking me for it every time I checked for Mail.

No doubt over the next few days, I'll discover how many other connections relied on that password! I DO learn.... eventually!

I feel your pain. Glad you learned your lesson: IT's not nice to mess with an ISP! tongue.gif
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system

Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

FWIW, you're not alone in situations like this.

A few days ago, I was websurfing and suddenly encountered a dialog box informing me that I was no longer connected to the internet.  First I logged out and back in again, when that didn't help, I did a full restart.  It was only after that didn't help either that I even thought to turn around and look at the lights on the cable modem and the router.  The cable modem looked fine, although all the lights were steadily green indicating no activity, but the Linksys router had a big red light showing.

Sure enough, after I unplugged the AC from it and restarted the router, all was well. blush-anim-cl.gif
