I'm back from a visit the offices of my friends at <
HeadGap>. They brought a
Firewire web cam to our mug meeting last night. They have ~
1815 cameras left in stock this morning. I'm buying two, one for Judy and one for the Grandkids. Neither of their Macs have a camera but even the oldest one has FW400. Haven't seen any FW cameras this inexpensive, ever. $29.77 (shipping included) $25 (local pickup). These are new "Pyro API-203" cameras in original boxes. Includes a CD with drivers but simply plugging them in activated iChat AV in both Tiger and Leopard! Use the CD as a coaster!
The camera does not appear to have zoom capabilities but iGlasses may be able to take care of that (and is certainly a handy app, anyway). Nor does it have a microphone but all Macs with FW have had builtin mics except the mini and the Mac Pro(!), anyway.
I have tested the camera on Judy's iBook and it was recognized as soon as I plugged it in. Set both our iChat apps to use Bonjour, also and was able to talk to myself from both my iMac and her Mac at the same time. Although the 'conversation' was rather slow and uninteresting! And I had to move quite fast to see myself in both screens.
If you find a cheaper shipping method (Parcel Post probably is but I'm sure that wold be slower than the method they use), I'll be happy to pick up a camera if you PM me with a shipping address and the shipping method.
