"A/V Out" into Mac G4
« on: May 30, 2008, 06:01:18 PM »
There is a little wire provided with my digital camera called "A/V Out." I would like to know where I would plug it into the back of my Mac G4 to transfer video from my camera to the computer. Thanks.

I'm guessing that it's a USB cable, since that stands for universal serial bus. Just about everything is these days. You probably have some other USB devices. Compare the camera cable to another device. If both are rectangular with a small chip inside they'll work off of any USB port on your G4. As far as I know, it won't hurt anything to plug something in. If it won't fit, don't force it, of course.

A/V Out is a composite video signal out. You will need to buy a special composite-to-USB adapter for your Mac, such as the EyeTV adapter. An A/V out is a composite television signal.

Be aware that the quality of the image you will get this way is very, very poor. You don't want to use the A/V out unless you have no other choice. Doesn't your camera have a mini-USB or mini-Firewire port?

Goodear, if you can list the camera brand and model, that might help too. smile.gif Mini-USB is the most common connection - usually it comes with a cable that has one of those "lumps" (like a snake that swallowed a mouse!) towards one end - mini-USB on one end and regular USB connector on the other.

Like this:

The mini-DVD connection may be under a rubber flap somewhere on the side of the camera - that's also pretty common.
