Manually Installing Plugins on Safari
« on: May 11, 2003, 04:48:16 AM »
When I click in my Safari browser (I've got Beta 2) on a Windows Media Player streaming file, the window that pops up says that I don't have that MIME file installed. I'm not familiar with that terminology, but I know it means the browser doesn't have the Windows Media Player plugin installed. Something isn't working, because I have WMP 7.1. Is there a way I can manually install its plugin into my Library folder or something so Safari will recognize it?

I have found that it's easiest to use the contextual menu to download .avi's and .mov's to the desktop and then play the movie from there.

My three button mouse allows me to open the menu with one button, but you can do the same thing with a one button mouse while Control-Clicking the link.

An advantage to downloading the movie is that you can let it download while you go on to another page or whatever while the movie is coming.
