Thanks Highmac!  I'm sure I would run into trouble with the language of my ancestors as well.  This reminds me of a collection of Chinese and Japanese problem translation signs that I've seen but I don't know the name of the website!

Could you translate that for me?! I don't understand Welch-speakers.

Seems I remember a radio program that was teaching the Welch language to the English speakers of the island. Wonder if that is still running? That was probably 15+ years ago. We were thankful to get out of Cymru after a driving visit to Caerdyff (pronounced as Caerdydd, locally, of course) Castle. We spent countless hours comparing the road signs, letter for letter (easily skipping the infrequent vowels) with what was in our itinerary! At least in that areas surrounding Wales, they used dual language signs. It made driving on the 'wrong' side of the road seem trivial!

Hey, Neil, explain that last image, the pedestrian walkway. Why aren't there any lines along the edges of that lane? Obviously not even a "B" road. I forget, do white lines mean parking is allowed or the reverse? Must there be lines for any parking? Or was that just 'bureaucratic efficiency?!'

No 1 - A warning to truck drivers that the road their sat-nav suggests is not suitable for anything much bigger than a small car. Seem to remember posting a pic a while back of a large artic stuck in a very narrow lane the sat-nav had sent it into. I gather sat-navs can now be programmed to take account of the vehicle being driven.

No 3 - There are not always white lines along the side of roads; you're probably thinking of the yellow lines for parking restrictions. Single line usually means parking not allowed in daytime (8am-6pm or thereabouts) - double-yellow usually means no parking at any time.  There is a law against 'causing an obstruction'  if you park stupidly even where there are no restrictions.
That pedestrian crossing (commonly known as a zebra crossing for the stripe effect) would be fine if you're able to walk through walls....

Jim: We know how you feel - early trips to Greek islands were long sessions of trying to match the Greek alphabet on road signs that hadn't been made "dual-alphabet" to the style of letters on the names on the map. And sometimes even the Greek versions didn't match exactly. And that while driving on the wrong side of the road
