iTunes wants me to 'authorize' a song?
« on: November 12, 2008, 09:28:55 AM »
Im using iTunes 6 on this older computer, and I just bought some songs this morning.  Now when I go to recently purchased songs, I find that 2 of them want to be Authorized?  So I follow the instructions, type in my password, and it tells me that the computer is authorized, yeah, I know that. Its the songs Im after.

But this morning when I logged in, I had to update my credit card info, thus had to create a new password, (same Apple id, which is the old email address?)  Heaven knows why. Everything works except those 2 songs. Ive never seen this before.
Heres the error message, its the song I need, not the computers.
Thanks in advance,
Jane

A teacher went around and around with this and then just went ahead and bought the song again (which is probably the point of all this); I'm not sure what version of iTunes she was using though!  I wonder if it isn't a permission thing?

If you bought it, you should have the email receipt for it. Simply contact Apple and give them the info on that email. You are probably out of luck without that receipt.

I was going to buy it again, there are actually 3 which are in this messy loop.
Ive got this mornings receipt, and Ive tried to contact Apple thru this receipt by clicking on the link here in the screenshot.
But all that does is take you to the login thing again then back to iTunes itself, with no communication.
Is Apple getting sloppy in the way they service their customers?  I sure hope not, but this thing is just a never-solved loop.
Jane

Is there a good email to contact Apple? Ive never found anything easy about contacting them.

Jane, you can view your purchase history (links in the page) and at the bottom of the page is a "Contact Us" option:

http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/...roubleshooting/

Before you email them though, a few more options to try in this thread:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?m...79&#8208979

It's possible that iTunes is confused by the password change too - have you tried your old one?

Note: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389?viewlocale=en_US may say that it applies to Windows, but if you read all the way down to the bottom, there is more stuff you can try on OS X.

I had a problem soon after getting my iPhone in which Apple did not recognize my password from it to the 'cloud.' While I was at the Store for another reason I brought this up. It took several minutes, some consulting with other 'geniuses' and a trip or two to the 'back room' but they finally fixed the problem. It may simply be a delay or lack of correct communications between any two servers that use that info with iTunes. Contacting Apple may be the only way to get things straightened out. At least, they should provide you with new copies of any previous purchases that are problematic.

Now I am on the contact page, typed in all my stuff, and then supposed to go to Select Category, but sadly it's just plain dead, no link, no way to type anything further. Just a dead end, well that's better than a frustrating never-ending loop right back to where you started.
Ick, it's only $3 bucks, but it's the difficulty of it all that is not good for Apple, as they are known for ease of use.
I might call my local Apple store, they've got a guy there who is pretty good with the music stuff, he might know.

My Mac-Spidey sense suggests that the prob is really a version-compatibility issue.

Can you upgrade the iTunes version on that machine?

Hi KB,
That might be it! I did skip downloading some songs as the error message said, not compatible with my older version.
But there was a reason that I didnt upgrade on this Mac, something to do with my iPod, cant remember, but I made sure that the new version is onn my other Mac.
So if this is the problem, maybe I can just move those 3 songs over to that Mac, and they should play on that one, or my iPod?
I will try that.
(THough this is the one with the big speakers.)
Thanks,
Jane
