How do you 'slow down' an internal modem?
« on: May 16, 2003, 05:47:11 PM »
Other than switching to the 34k.

I've been happy with 28800 or 26400 bps because pages, sites load faster (especially 26400) by gathering/collecting {lack of a better phrase} all the tid-bits on those sites, pages etc.
Now my 'puter fires up at 31/32 something due too some new construction (I'm guessing) in the neighborhood. Think they replaced some old lines.?.

This slight increase has actually made my -Lets surf again- worse.

Tried changing numbers, reseting etc. Didn't help.
Can I dump a pref in JAG or something??

Well, for starters Bill, you might ask Bernie how to speed up your modem. Devilish2.gif

Sorry for not getting back right away Harv. Was caught up chasing a butterfly.

Did get it back down to 28800 bps earlier at least, thanks to some help on another board. Have to see later about taking it down one more step.

All that small boost from 26/28 too 31/32 does is slow down the draw factors [or whatever it's called],no matter what browser for me. Not worth it.

Either jumping way up or going DSL or Cable would be another story.
Don't think (or can't see why) I would want to pay any monthly ungodly fee for either of the speedies. Then again there's the can't afford it bit.

Well. There seems to be a bit of a price war going on Bill. smile.gif

Verizon DSL for $35/mo.

I might be able to handle (or live with) $35 a month Kelly.
Yet the last time I inquired about DSL I'm the last one in line with a download of 2?? for the max.
They have been building a new neighborhood for a couple of years now down the way and I've been told several times that all the utility lines 'will' be replaced or upgraded and rerouted. Not holding my breath though.

Cable: Broadband was taking a loss here and just read comcast took it over.
The local cable has changed hands twenty times in as many years. <gr>

The first guy who started cable here built it up plus had a steady income for years.
After around twelve or so years he sold out to a bigger fish and he and his family split with a large chunk of money. Probably retired on a ranch somewhere. biggrin.gif

Still can't seem to get down to 26400 though.
