MacMall Customer Service...
« on: January 19, 2009, 02:12:26 PM »
A friend is looking for a previous-generation MacBook Pro 15". Amazon now wants over $1700 vs. the $1450 I paid last fall. There are currently no refurbs at Apple, but we all know how quickly that can change...

I've read mixed reviews of MacMall. Anyone care to chime-in here, good or bad? My friend has Consumer Lust, so I don't know how ling he can hold-out waiting for a deal...

I've have had a MacMall account for ten years, my first G3, printer and all was purchase there. When my printer arrived in was damaged, I called MacMall and they sent another, I just put the damaged one in the box and sent it back postage paid.
I had purchased a Viewsonic monitor that died a week after the contract expired, MacMall sent a replacement all postage paid both ways.

I have had nothing but good, timely service from MacMall, though it's been sometime and things do change.

Never a problem here either. Great customer service in my experience (dealt mostly with their education division...).

One negative several years ago.  Ordered an iMac, printer combo and paid extra for two day delivery (Xmas gift) but it wasn't shipped on time and I had a bit of trouble getting the shipping cost refunded. Eventually they agreed and credited my account.  Otherwise OK.

Mayo, check carefully which model you are looking at with Amazon.  They are apparently charging more for the matte finish MBPs than the glossy ones of the same configuration since they know that is a premium some will pay.

Hi Mayo,

All positive here with MacMall, had a great salesperson when I dealt with them. Caveat: haven't bought from them for a few years.

I do have the name of the sales rep I used to deal with if you would like it, he's still there to the best of my knowledge, and he is really wonderful.

HTH,

Chris

P.S. I am checking the Mac Refurb section regularly right now looking for a refurbed Airport Express, if I see the 15" Matte MacBook Pro's come back I'll PM you.

Chris, there are refurbed AEs in the store right now - $79. smile.gif

Gotta click on the "Mac accessories" section.

Whole bunch of MBPs in the refurb section now!

http://store.apple.com/ca/browse/home/spec...mac/macbook_pro

This 2.2GHz model doesn't mention anything about a glossy display:

However, if the glossy screen isn't an issue, this one is a much better deal:

http://store.apple.com/us/product/FB075LL/A?mco=MjE0NjE5MA

Interesting that in comparing those two models, it would appear that even Apple is actually charging a premium for the matte screen. The 2.4GHz model is faster, has a better video card, more RAM and a bigger HD. All for a mere $50 more. Thinking.gif

gee, if apple can get more $$ for the matted screen maybe they'll bring it back as a premium item.  rolleyes.gif

Hey Paddy,

I was in there earlier today, same location, no refurbs, but as we all know, the more things stay the same, the more things change! rolleyes.gif

Thanks!
