I prefer their Blue Drives, 7200 rpm rather than the Green 5400-7200 rpm drives at any size. The StableTrac is a new feature, my latest WD, which is just a week old doesn't have it. Just the same the drive is smooth and quiet.

Paddy, can you tell me the purpose of the two small screws on the arches of the Macally case? I haven't seen an explanation or an attachment for it yet?

Tigerdirect is offering the 1TB SATA's for $89 again; I wonder if the 2TB's are the reason?

That case has two options for feet - the stand (which I use) or little aluminum rectangles which are wider than the case, giving it more stability. I assume that this is what you're referring to? I don't recall the screws being in the holes when I got mine - they were in the bag with the feet. Did you not get the feet perhaps? They're maybe 2" by 3/4" (don't know where mine are right now, so I'm guessing), rounded corners, with a hole in the middle for the screw (and maybe some stick-on rubbery stuff to prevent scratches to the surface of whatever the drive is sitting on, but I can't remember for sure!) They're around here somewhere...a cleanup is definitely in order!!

Yes, empty holes with bagged screws but no feet, just a center stand. Both the Samsung and WD are doing fine, it's hard to define the difference in vibration and noise between the two, or my Lacie Porsche drives for that matter. I've ordered a second Macally enclosure to prepare myself for any lack of firewire/usb/eSata/whatever connection that becomes obsolete in the near future. What was surprising is the power block, no central converter and a very thin wire compared to any enclosure I have. It also runs cool, something the Porsche's with their sleek enclosures are less able to compete with, not that it's a problem and it might only be a 20º difference, the mass of the macally disperses the heat much better. wink.gif
