Apple with multiple passwords?
« Reply #15 on: January 28, 2009, 07:18:25 AM »
I do see the account in the corner when Im on the store itself, but there is nothing to click to go to the account.
At least what Ive tried so far.
I think there was another way, like just after I had purchased some songs?
Screenshot of when Im in the store itself,

Jane, can you post a screen shot of the entire iTunes store window? The Accounts link I'm referring to is in the right hand MENU, not the top bar. It should be under the heading "Quick Links". This will help us know if we're at least looking at the same thing, since nobody else here seems to still be running iTunes 6, of if they are, they're keeping mum about it!

Try 'stretching' the window open farther to the right.....  pretty sure it's there. toothgrin.gif

Cant see Quick Links, nor when I stretch it out to the max, its just the same, just a bit wider columns.
Ive got version 8.0.2 on the other Mac. And on that one I have Store in the menu and View My Account.
I just leave that one signed in as I do this one.

2 years ago I was able to drag songs from one Mac to the other, and my iPod while networked. But Ive got so much music that I havent done that lately.

Jane, do you have any of the e-mail purchase confirmations Apple sends after buying stuff from iTunes?

Yes, that was the only way I got to my account, of all strange things.
I looked at the email and clicked on the 2 songs that were the 'problem' ones, and sent a message to Apple.
Each song was apparantly a live link.
Still waiting for their promised 'personal' reply.
Ive not phoned them yet for an explanation, as the email might appear today.
When it does, they will probably want me to change the password, which I do not want to do, as it is the same for
my Mobile me account, everything else, and my old stuff.

Good news, here is the reply I got.
I just thanked him and will go and get those two songs and more later on.
I also noticed that my dotMac email still works and that the Mobile.me email works too, though I didnt even get around to adding it to my list yet.

"Dear Jane,

I'm sorry to hear that two of the songs you purchased from the iTunes Store will not play, and repeatedly prompt  you to authorize your computer.  Since the other songs from that order play successfully, but two songs do not, I have issued 2 song credits to your account, which you can use to buy these songs again from the iTunes Store. There may have been an issue with the download of these two songs.

About iTunes Store authorization and deauthorization
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420

If you authorize a computer and are still prompted to authorize it again, the steps in this article should help:

iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases

Also, I understand that when you entered  your account password, that it was rejected.  If you no longer have the password for your account, you can reset it via Apple's iForgot website at:

http://iforgot.apple.com

I hope you find this information helpful, Jane.  If you have any questions or concerns with this issue, just reply to let me know and I will be happy to help.

Sincerely,

Tim

All Right!!!   Apple Forever!!

Glad things are getting straightened out for you Jane.

And thanks for posting the 'extra' links provided by Apple... might come in handy for someone else.

Not 'strange' at all. In fact, when I make my message html capable the only link I see near a song title, is labeled "Report problem." While you certainly had a problem, I was asking about the e-mails because you said you thought your account was messed up. Your account info is also available by using the link at the bottom of each e-mail. That where I would have started, if I thought I had an "account" problem.

But it's great to hear that you now have things under control! clap.gif

BTW, there is really nothing to "set-up" in MobileME. That is simply the new name for the old dotMac stuff. Since you already had a dotMac account when they changed last year, you will still have your ".mac" address. But you will also have a ".me" address. At least I think you do, I don't care for that term and have never changed any of my account settings or notified any of my friends about the new address. Apple's mail servers take care of all that for you. All you have to do is keep up with the yearly fees. When you get a chance, however, you should investigate what you are paying for, like 20GB of Internet space, Back to My Mac and various syncing services that you might want to use. dntknw.gif You may also notice that your subscription has a later renewal date than you might think. The change over last May was so bad (remember they came out with new iPhone software, a new iPhone, MobleMe and an OS update(I think, could have been something else) on the same day!) that Apple gave everyone an extra two months on their current subscription. smile.gif

Thank you for the info!
I did notice that my mobile me address was working, so like you say, Apple must have done the work, so I wont mess with my mail settings.

I do have many many photo albums, really old ones, on my dot Mac account, they are all still there.  So I will just leave them alone too.
The mobile me album I made is OK too, though I forget to look at them.

EEEWWW,
Tried to use my credit for those two songs, and got the message that "This version of iTunes will not work with downloading songs from the store" or something like that.

So I just gave up, I will go and buy that doggone CD in our local music store.

Why does Apple make things so frustratingly difficult?  Thats supposed to be PC stuff, If you own a Mac, this stuff shouldnt be on your plate.
Jane

Oh, I see, they want you to buy a new Mac and new software. In this failing economy, why wouldnt any company make things difficult to deal with old stuff, make the people go out and buy new. Try buying parts for an old vehicle or appliances.

Jane, why don't you just update to iTunes 8? huh.gif

A lot cheaper to do that (free in fact) and then you're just buying the songs you want, rather than an entire CD.

As Apple adds new features to the iTunes store, they also update the iTunes software. They can only keep supporting the old software for so long...the last version of iTunes 6 came out 2.5 years ago, and iTunes 8 does work with OS 10.4, which came out a full 4 years ago now. So...I don't think they're really trying to make things difficult. This Wikipedia page says that a minimum of iTunes 6.5 is needed to use the iTunes store, but I'm not sure if it's up to date or not. What version of iTunes 6 are you currently using?

Im using 6.0.5 on this Mac, with 10.3.9. Its my communication machine, and its doing all I need(well not iTunes evidently).
The other Mac is 10.4.11 with iTunes v. 8.0.2. But the reason I dont use that one, is that my big speakers are on this machine and I run the music in the background while the other machine is doing PS Terragen and the more 'hungry' programs.

Though I have been able to move songs between them while networked.  But that sometimes is very very tricky.

I do remember that the newer iTunes versions had a glitch where it was far more difficult to just drag and drop songs between Macs, thats one reason Ive stayed with v. 6.

I wish they would just leave stuff alone and not make us upgrade constantly, if it aint broke?
But, alas, it is broke,,,,,,

Sorry - typo on my part; it should say iTunes 6.05, not 6.5... so I guess the Wikipedia article is out of date.

I've had no difficulty dragging and dropping songs with iTunes 8 - I do it all the time. smile.gif

I will try later on to see if I can use the other Mac to download and just drag them over onto this one. It used to work OK, sure hope it still does. As the speakers are a different type connection and wont work on the other Mac.
Thank you, I will give it a try soon.
