Now, Happy with OS X

After a great deal of hesitation and fearfulness, I have upgraded to OS X, the last few weeks, and walked away from OS 9.2.2. Except for a few programs such as Eric's Ultimate Solitaire, every app I need is now in OS X.

After running into some painful problems and (see previous posts), I am happily settled into OS 10.2.4. My way was made much, much smoother by some of you great folks here on TS.    

For me, OS X Jaguar is a joy to use. Compared to Windows (I must use Windows to run my GPS V system) it is like running Boeing 767 compared with a Piper Cub. I do wait with some dread the arrival of Panther followed by Leopard, followed by Couger, etc. But right now I am in fat city.

My one remaining problem is Safari which does not work well with my OS. Can't cahnge any item in the preference panel.

Again thanks to you good folks who helped me get there and who tolerated my "Moose" panics.

Why stop now?

Go ahead to 10.2.6 (be sure to get the latest Quicktime) and start using Camino rather than Safari.

You'll never look back, but OS X does continue to be flaky about preferences.

Cause she had problems if I remember correctly..that's why she's not upgrading to 10.2.6

Mamamoose, which mac do you have? How much ram?

As for Eric's solitaire...why fret no longer! Click here to get it. While it's still beta, it works.

As for Safari, can you give me an example of what you mean? Change what in the prefs for it?

Glad you're finally happy, Tom!  OSX is wonderful, once you get used to it!

Yes I am a "he" but my children (actual and step) call me a Jewish mother because I act like them - worry, anxiety, worry, anxiety, etc.  

The explanation for my sobriquet, "MamaMoose" will have to wait for another time.

My problem with Safari is: When I launch it and open Preferences, I get a pane called Appearance which is frozen. That is non of the buttons that choose different aspects of Preferences work. Also, the Appearance pane has a choice of fonts. Again, font change is frozen.

By the way, I will not upgrade beyond 10.2.4. As some of you know from my previous threads of the past week or so, I could not get my laser printer to work in OS 10.2.5 or 10.2.6. My son, Young Moose, has considerable experience with OS X including server versions. He advised me to stay away from upgrades for a while. What I plan to do is run carbon copy cloner on a new partition and then combo upgrade to the latest and greatest and see if that works for me (I have 430 GB of hard drive or to make it sound really jazzy, 0.43 TB!!).

Have a look at MacSolitaire.  It is FREE, and available in both a Classic and an OS X-native version!
