New MS ad mentions Apple...

And here I thought the rule of thumb if you were the top dog was to NOT mention the competition.

This ad is bizarre on many levels; she's "not cool enough for a Mac" (how is that an endorsement?), she appears to pick her computer on the basis of looks, and she's really, really happy in the end because MICROSOFT PAID FOR HER COMPUTER. Now that's what I call a ringing endorsement.

Not.

Paddy I agree!!!  I saw this ad on TV last night and I thought the same thing when she came out of the Apple store and said I'm not cool enough for a Mac. Duh...she got that right...a bit too ditsy I'd say. The way she made her choice was ridiculous!

Apple Insider's report on the latest campaign - over here, a thread was just called "Windows stereotyping women in new ad campaign". That's obviously going down well, then biggrin.gif

Not unexpectedly, AI's report details some of M$'s earlier less-than-successful efforts at knocking Apple smile.gif

Must say, the phrase about knowing the price of everything and the value of nothing springs to mind.

What a bunch of fanatical posters. Some from each camp, unfortunately. Sad. I posted a comment to the effect that she got what she said she wanted, so who are we to argue. It's an add! It may actually happen like that in life. People make mistakes! Hopefully, they learn from them and get to try again. smile.gif If your "technical" requirements don't go beyond a laptop with a 17" screen and a "nice" keyboard, one could buy practically any Wintel machine. The price was the only limiting factor of the requirements. That's just not what Apple has ever concentrated on. doh.gif She picks a Wintel machine. What's new? What's the point? Apple doesn't make the cheapest computers? Is that supposed to be news to anyone? dntknw.gif

But I really wonder how much HP supported the ad's costs. One would be hard pressed to know that it wasn't an HP ad, IMHO. So, what kind of OS does HP supply? Gee, I have no idea... rofl.gif If MS didn't get some money from HP, they are even less intelligent than I think they are. Wonder if they would actually have aired the ad had she bought a Dell? Or even (GASP) a used MBP! laughhard.gif I'm bettin' that tape would never see the light of day! wink.gif

Now, I gotta' go search that list to see if they are looking for some fixed-income, retired pilots...I promise to keep my "technical" requirements to a minimum: never bothered by a virus while running the OS without any anti-virus s/w and has a warranty from Apple. Oh yeah, it must have a nice keyboard and a 17" screen and I'm more than willing to pay the first thousand dollars of my own money! smile.gif Bring it on MS!
