Anyone remember "Frapper?"
« on: July 16, 2009, 10:03:11 AM »
We had a new member post on the other side and I invited him to visit the TS Frapper Map (actually a Google map) that I started way back when (<Oct, 2005>Oct, 2005). However, when I visited it (it's be quite a while...) I found that there were only four TS members still shown! One was me, of course, but I don't know what happened to the rest of you. There were, at one time, nearly 60 names and locations shown. I could understand one of our left-coast member's location simply moving a little too far westward, but many are still well away from any coast line, so...Did Google 'lose' 50+ people? Did you remove yourselves?

Just wondering.

The map is still available at <Techsurvivor Frapper Map> if you'd like to update/add your info/picture/comments.

OK, I guess the Google servers are just a little slow this morning. When I went back just now to confirm the url, looks like it was updated from then changes I'd made. Looks like most of you are still around, after all! And there are 47 pictures of you, also. Still, I know some of you have moved and others never joined. So, consider this a reminder of something you wanted to forget or a notice of something you don't want to know about! blush-anim-cl.gif laughhard.gif

I put me on the map (there's a fun thing to say).
But had an error when trying to upload a picture so I'm invisible... just a blue pin there smile.gif

Hmmm .... not sure if I'm there or not. I remember there were privacy issues with Frapper at one time. I do see a 'blue dot' that might be us'n, but I can't find any info on it. Also, I'm not seeing most of the photos. Maybe it's FF?

I noticed that the default for showing the map publicly had reverted to OK. I changed that back to "NoThankYouVeryMuch!"

The pictures were in a scrolling list just below the map, AFAIR. Probably require javascript, at least. dntknw.gif

Here may be size limits on images? Or it may require my 'authorization.' I know I had things set for that before new members could be displayed, hopefully to keep some SPAMmers away. dntknw.gif I'll go back and see if there's anything for me to do...

I just added myself without a problem now; as I recall I couldn't add myself back then, but I'm not sure why? Thinking.gif Maybe I learned how to put myself into the Frapper! Devilish2.gif

I must say, I honestly thought I put myself on that map back when you asked it first time around... I was still in Belgium at that point.
But I couldn't find it.

I'll uploading the picture again.

Okay, there's a pin for where we are, but it won't let me add a name or pic without joining.

Also, how come I’m not seeing you, XABD?  Thinking.gif

I checked this out the other day and was surprised to see that there are no pins in OHIO!  I know there are at least three of us from OHIO. (dick miller, Jack W, and myself). My photo is in the photolog, but that's all.

I know nothing, I changed nothing, I understanding nothing, I accept no responsibility for nothing!! Just cobwebs in Googles servers, IMHO.

You always have to 'join' to 'verify' that you aren't a bot. The fact that this is Google, who collects massive amount of info on every living soul in the known universe and keeps it for ever, should be no deterrent to joining. Your secret is safe with them and all their friends, the people they sell this stuff to is another matter, of course...

I noticed that one of my images was showing the infamous "?" icon. They maybe removed it because too many women were spending too much time viewing it, overloading their servers? blush-anim-cl.gif dntknw.gif

I already have a google acct, so that's why I was surprised to be told to sign up. Then I noticed the about us, and I'm not sure it's still Google. That might explain many missing things.

Wow! "The Paranoid One" never noticed the ownership change! See! They really are out to get me!! eek2.gif

OTOH, it's funny that the thing is still in beta after a couple of years...

The ownership change may also explain why the map style I'd first designated was not displaying 80% of the world. Maybe they haven't paid Google off completely, yet?! ohmy.gif

Still, most of those people looked fairly normal, especially for Portlandians! tease.gif None of them really looked like SPAMmers, well the girl in the Santa Claus suit is a little suspect...

I don't know where SPAM has gone this year, I can't remember the last stupid message I received. Thinking.gif Not counting the three obvious requests to 'follow' me on Twitter. wallbash.gif
