I was trying to organize my Netscape bookmarks. I put five folders of various subject material in my Personal Toolbar Folder and in them about 20 links each on average. I was attempting to sort one of the folders in alphabetical order. Well, (sigh here) I accidently was over "Set as Personal Toolbar Folder" when I released the mouse button. It put all the links into my toolbar. I didn't want that so I reselected the original folder named Personal Toolbar Folder and "set it." Then proceeded to clean up my toolbar by deleting each of the links that had been added. Am I going to fast?

I then wanted to access the folder named Personal Toolbar Folder but it would not open. In fact it had no expansion arrow next to it even though I could still see my five folders in the toolbar. Oh my, I whispered to myself, I will just quit and restart. Surely (and don't call me Shirley) I thought it would all be there when I got back into the program.

WRONG. All of my five folder and there contents were gone and not to be found in the Bookmarks Folder.

Am I without hope here?

I'm not too sure about this one... but just in case...  wink.gif
Have you ckecked if you can access the items/urls in the folders on the personal toolbar itself? If so maybe they may appear in the folders themselves again.

Another thing I might be inclined to try is to make a new folder in the bookmarks and set it as the toolbar folder... see if the older folder now has the items in it. If so you could just move everything to this new folder... delete the old one and rename the new folder to something appropriate... I think by default it's just "Personal Toolbar Folder".

And then the "old cautionary note"... smile.gif Make a regular recent backup of your User Profile folder so in case these things happen you can swap items from the good backed up one...

Where is this file found in OS X. I used to know where everything was in 9 but have not been able to find any of Netscapes User info in X. Do they name it something else?

Netscape and Mozilla share User Profile files...at least they seem to on my Mac. My Netscape bookmarks are located at Users>"my name">Documents>Mozilla>Profiles>"username">1fv97bmo.sit. There is also a Mozilla folder at Users>"my name">Library>Mozilla>Profiles>"username">aagd5xvv.sit....this folder does not have a Bookmarks folder but has a lot of other shared files.

Hey Rick:

Here's an off-the-wall suggestion.

When I went to Mozilla 3.1 (for OS X) I found that all my NS 7.1 addresses and bookmarks showed-up instantly, right after installation . . . I didn't have to direct it to Netscape in any manner.

After all, it's all in the family so to speak.

Why don't you go to the Mozilla.org site, download 3.1 and just see if it goes out/over/in/under/whatever and finds your wayward bookmarks?

Can't hurt, I wouldn't think.

PS: How's the training going?
