Advice on Jaguar training cds???
« on: June 01, 2003, 02:08:43 AM »
Well, never felt I needed a training cd before - right from system 7 right through 9.2. After all, how different was one from the other???? The last time I played with OSX on my G4, I lost my whole HD.  This system really scares me. I have stuck with 9.2 and ignored the fact that OSX is lurking somewhere in the background here - and I even have a sealed Jaguar CD box sitting on my shelf, reminding me daily of my anxiety. Decided to take the plunge since I will probably buy a new computer this summer and will be stuck with Jaguar.  There seem to be a lot of companies selling the training cds, such as Macacademy.  It will make me feel better than trying to read the manual - since I don't think I've read one yet, unless to troubleshoot a hopeless situation.  Anyone have any input on whose cds might be best for this moron? wacko.gif

Dakota,

Alas, I have no recommendations re CD training, but IMNHO, two first-rate texts that may be of benefit. The first is The Little OS Mac OS X Book by Robin Williams and the second is Mac OS X - The Missing Manual (Second Edition) by David Pogue. Both are available at Amazon and elsewhere.

I also recommend you do a Google search on "YMUG Conceptual Guide To Unix". That will go to a link allowing you to download a 27-page pdf published by the Yorkshire Mac Users Group.

Yeah, OS X is a bit a transition and most of us have had our days of expanded vocabulary. But then, most of us are also glad that we have made the switch.

So come on in. The water is not all that deep, there really are no sharks lurking about, there are several lifeguards around (just in case) and, you are with friends.
