New iMac up and running
« on: September 13, 2009, 04:43:27 PM »
thumbup.gif  My new iMac is up and running, and I love it.  I copied everything using the time machine backup and it was as though I had just opened up my old computer.  Everything was exactly at the same spot on the desktop - quite impressive.

I do have one problem, however.  My old scanner Lide 80 (Canon) will not work with the Intel system. Everything else works - I had to change the Adobe Reader to work with the Intel processor but that is all.

Anyone have a suggestion for a new moderately priced scanner that does a good job of copying, especially photos?

Kathy,

First of all, have you updated the drivers for your current scanner?  And how, other than total non-functioning, do you know it WON'T work with your new Mac?

I have a Canon Lide 500F and that works well with Leopard on my Intel iMac.... I just had to update the driver and the "Canoscan Toolbox' software.

If you've had a good 'working relationship' with the Canon scanners that is probably where I'd look first.

Best of luck.

Hi Bob,

The first thing I did when the scanner didn't work was go to the Canon site and look for a new driver.  This model was not listed so I assumed it wouldn't work.

Listed on Canon site here

Appears that a new driver was released in July of this year...  Check it out and let us know how it goes..

And don't forget about scanner software, <VueScan> has been making life better for 'old' scanners for years. smile.gif

Also, not sure what version of the OS you're running, but for you and anyone else with scanner and Snow Leopard problems, this site, if you can stand the adds, might be of some help. It seems there is now a "Share Scanner" option in the Print & FAX Pref panel.
