Having problems view the forums?
« on: May 29, 2003, 08:02:13 PM »
The bad news is......it's your browser.  The board uses CSS, not rendered easily (if at all) by many older browsers.

The good news is....we're working on it.  We hope to create a skin that is friendlier to the older browsers.

A work around.....a newer browser   wink.gif  eek2.gif or at least one that renders css.  (no, I'm not going to tell you which browser to "switch to"-that's a personal decision only YOU can make)
Do not fear your enemies.  The worse they can do is kill you.  Do not fear friends.  At worst, they may betray you.
Fear those who do not care; they neither kill nor betray, but betrayal and murder exist because of their silent consent.

I'm still using AOL 5.0 on my Mac G3 beige tower, with OS 8.6.  I won't upgrade the OS, for a number of reasons, but the newer AOL 8.0 is only for OS X.  They never made a 6.0 or 7.0 upgrade for Macs (those @#$%&*!'s)

TS is almost impossible to make out on AOL 5.0, but in IE 5 it is fine.

I've been advised to change to Earthlink, which is supposed to be friendlier to Macsters, but it is really hard to leave something you have been with for so long (AOL).  I have my AOL addresses in so many places, I cringe at the thought of changing.

That's all.

I understand how you feel Lorraine... we almost sound like "peas in a pod" you and I...  biggrin.gif

A whole lot of the newer browsers are coming out for OS X... #&%#(%#(%...  wallbash.gif

I did upgrade to OS9.1 on my Pismo cause it wouldn't take anything lower... and I came to like it a lot... very stable!

So... I still like my NS4.76 too which doesn't work here... my work-around... Opera 5. It works very well. Netscape 7.x still makes a Mac Classic version.

Lorraine,
You can use any browser you want (that will run on 8.6) with AOL. All you need AOL for is to connect with the internet, just like any other ISP. You don't need their browser (which is just a modified copy of IE or NS, anyway). You may have to continue using their s/w for e-mail, not sure about that one. Maybe others can help here.

Er, umm, I would have sworn there was a place to set my pref for the number of days worth of posts to view. Mine seems stuck at "Last 30 days" now. I used just 2 days at the old board. Don't see any place to set that in 'My Controls.' Did I just imagine this capability? blush-anim-cl.gif  wacko.gif

Jim  You can, but it's not as easy as the old board.  Click "my assistant" then click 'today's active topics" and you can set the "days preference" there.

huh.gif Not crazy about that .....let's see if that is "hackable"

Well, of course there's that way! wallbash.gif
I was thinking more of a terminal window type script, with a lot of unique, dangerously position critical, and completely non-human readable way! doh.gif  notworthy.gif  harhar.gif

Thanks, again for the work you 'guys' are doing! clap.gif  thumbup.gif

OK, so now I have to go through that 3 step process every day! jawdrop.gif Actually, it appears that this process is only a search function, it has no lasting value. Even if I return to the main, all topics screen, the value remains at the default past 30 days. Don't think its a cookies thing, all other prefs seem to change and stick. Oh well, not the biggest problem in the world, or even my little part of it! wacko.gif

I seem to have run into the "more emoticons than this board allows" barrier! Eight must still be the limit...
