iCal syncing on home network - - SUCCESS!!!

My wife keeps the 'social calendar (and all other dates) on her G4 Macbook and often refers to it when we are 'discussing' schedules.

I would like to find a way to sync our two calendars ( actually, just populate mine) easily and CHEAPLY...  No iPhone / iPod Touch involvement necessary.

I am aware of "BusyCal" and used that for the 'free trial' period and found it to be very good.....BUT at $25 per computer....WAY out of line for a 1-trick-pony.

Any other suggestions or experiences would be appreciated.

I never used iCal in Tiger, so I don't know what sharing capabilities it might have. Never shared/synced in either Leopard, either. Only syncing I've done is to my iPhone, but that uses .Mac. But if you check the Help files with iCal open, you might find something to help. I think the simplest method would be to publish your calendar to some space you have on the Internet (never heard of an ISP that didn't provide some space).

I think what that would involve is actually having both of you 'subscribe' to the Internet-based calendar with both of you allowed to edit it. Not sure how any real syncing would be done. Good luck, young Will!

Thinking of doing an 'export' from hers and an 'import' on mine.... but not sure where what is kept to do these things...

Have successfully synced (actually overlaid) the two iCals in question....

Procedure, if I can remember correctly;

1. On "base" computer under the iCal 'file' tab select 'Export - iCal Archive'.

2. Select 'obvious/easy to find' location to save archive file'

......   The following step(s) depend on your network setup and/or connection

3. If you have "DropCopy" available and it is linked to your 'target' computer drop base computer archive file on 'Dropcopy' to pass it to target computer.
   
OR  ( if you prefer)
 
If you are working from the 'target' computer, in the 'Finder' window go to the 'Go' tab and connect to the 'base' computer via the 'connect to server' method.  This will allow you to 'get a hold' of the iCal archive file you saved in a convenient location and transfer it to another 'convenient' location on the 'target' computer.

4. On the 'target' computer go to the iCal 'file' tab and select 'import' again selecting the iCal Archive file you saved in a convenient location on the 'target' computer.

5. DONE!!!

6.  REMEMBER THAT THIS PROCESS WILL OVERLAY THE iCAL DATA FROM THE 'BASE' COMPUTER TO THE iCAL FILE ON THE 'TARGET' COMPUTER!    
You can create 'auxiliary' calendars on the 'target" computer to import into... your choice.

But it works very well and, ABD, it costs nothing...  
This will also work if you are just connected via a 'sneaker net'.... just save the base iCal archive file to a USB thumb drive and transfer that to the 'Target" computer.
