With the record number of bank closings this year, SCAMmers realized they had another subject to use in their phishing emails. Be on the lookout for an email telling you your bank has been closed by the Feds and you should contact the FDIC...Along with all your personal info, of course! wallbash.gif rolleyes.gif

It's unfair to pop a quiz on us but I'll give you my answer anyway:  Don't ever, under any circumstances, click on a link in an email that purports to be from your bank. Go to your browser and either type the bank's URL manually or get there from a bookmark that is known to be good. Then, look into whatever the email said.  In truth, I automatically trash emails that supposedly come from my bank. Are they really from my bank? I haven't seen pigs flying lately.

Banks, in my experience NEVER, EVER email you - or at least never about your account. Email is inherently insecure, so they don't use it.

Paypal never sends you an email addressed to "Paypal user" - if they send you an email, it's addressed to YOU by name and they don't ask you to log in to your account from a link in the email. EVER.

eBay - same thing.

In fact, no business, financial or otherwise will send you an email asking you to verify your account by clicking on a link and entering personal info.

Good O, XABD. The phishers seem to be coming out of the woodwork. I receive about 25 spams a day vis-a-vis bank closings, my bank closing, etc.O find it hard to believe that people will "bite" on some of the spams. They Are very crude and mainly give themselves away by using a logo of a legitimate bank.

Seriously, I've never even had 4 SPAMs in a whole week!

My wife is getting a lot of phishing emails about Facebook, maybe 6 a day. Neither she nor I has a Facebook account.

But a lot of people do, so it's a safe "line" on which to attach a "hook!" wink.gif I got an increase the first few weeks after signing up at Facebook. But I'm sure it wasn't their fault. rolleyes.gif
