The "real" reason ATT drops iPhone calls
« Reply #1 on: February 23, 2010, 07:00:54 PM »
I can't address every location over the at&t network but for many years now, around here, Point of Presence (POP) has been the problem. Those pesky little expensive substations that charge for the "Middle Mile"

If Apple has an unstable algorithm to save battery life and it's dropping calls or streams of data, that's a new one on me.

I'm not too keen on the iPhone antenna, which is what i've blamed their lack of reach and clarity on, but the issue could be deeper than that.

The only way to convince someone who is in luv with their iPhone is to put them out in the middle of the bay and tell them to phone home. When they get nothing and beg you to call for them on your blackberry, samsung, sony, nokia...then the light in their head goes on. I was first introduced to this problem when Jepinto cam to visit with her first addition iPhone, and ever since then to problems have returned.

this is an old article i've had bookmarked for years it gets into the whole middle mile business.
