Speak to the FCC...QUICKLY...
« on: March 13, 2010, 08:29:12 AM »
They started asking for input from users Thursday. Their plan will be presented to Congress next week! (way to go FCC, nothing like getting your ducks in a row early...)

<http://www.broadband.gov/> Be sure to read the Privacy Statement. Not exactly comforting to me, but...

...The FCC, Ookla, and M-Lab are collecting and storing broadband performance information and IP addresses, which Ookla and M-Lab may release to the public. The FCC will not make individual IP addresses available to the public except in the limited circumstances described in the Consumer Broadband Test Privacy Statement...
So, what does Ookla and M-Lab plan on doing with my data? Thinking.gif I suspect "releasing it to the public" is not as descriptive as possible! laughhard.gif Still...might this info help get better advertising from the providers, at least? dntknw.gif

iPhone and Anroid apps also available. The app actually has more options for the test, saves each one and stores them for later review. thumbup.gif

Not sure how many times one can send a report. You do have the option to repeat after each test, however.

Looks like you can do the test as often as you like, at least until they decide they have enough data. I can only assume that they will average multiple reports from the same address to avoid giving any one location/connection too much weight. dntknw.gif
