Wright found that hackers could exploit the weakness to break into meters remotely, which would be a key step for shutting down someone's power. Or someone could impersonate meters to the power company, to inflate victims' bills or lower his own. A criminal could even sneak into the utilities' computer networks to steal data or stage bigger attacks on the gr

Oh terrific. Ontario is being converted to smart meters - by the end of this year, EVERYONE will have one. (we already do). I hope Toronto Hydro etc. sit up and take notice.

I've had one for two years with no problems...so far...
When I'm out in the yard taking pictures, I snag a photo of the meter every once in a while just to keep an eye on the numbers. it wasn't intentionally at first, it just happened to be in a photo one day and I found it to be useful.

You mean, like, before they lose customer credit card, phone numbers linked with their addresses and the times they use the least or most energy, thus tipping off the crooks about the best times to 'survey' their house? Why, I'm sure they have done their homework, just like all the other company's and government servers that have been hacked. Sure they have. Not to worry. "We'll take care of you..." yes.gif scram.gif

It seems that no company/government ever learns from the mistakes of others (and they never admit to any of their own). Their absolute, number one goal is to cut costs and increase profits (well, the government does all that in revers, anyway...). rolleyes.gif But, there's still "Hope & Change." rofl.gif

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system
