Is there anything in the crash logs that you can see that might be of use? (Applications->Utilities->Console)

Crash reporter can't/doesn't send kernel panic reports - it can't, because kernel panics shut down all the processes. So what you may have seen is a crash (what program were you working in?) followed immediately by a kernel panic. And it's possible that they're unrelated. Can you duplicate it?

Which machine is this and did you resolve all your RAM issues?

(If it's the same G4 as before, I'm beginning to suspect that it may have hardware issues - either something that has been added on that it just doesn't play well with, or something more serious with the G4's own logic board etc.)

Kernel was using Firefox...than had many Quits from it and Safari too

Don't really know where to look in Console Thinking.gif

Here's what i've found in console log

Debugger() was called!

Just take out Belkin Firewire/Usb card to see... maybe it's related

I think you've already found the "CrashReporter" section in Console. But, unless you understand the log, just the name and date of the crash may be enough to narrow down what could be the problem. The list disclosed by CrashReporter will show the name of the app and the year-month-day-time (hour|minute|second) and the name of your Mac. That list is alphabetical, but if you see one app/process listed many times, especially with recent date/times, there's your problem.

Of course, clearing all caches and forcing new pref writing would be advisable before re-installing apps.

Perhaps a screen capture of the list under "CrashReporter" would help. Not many here can actually read most of the data in the crash log. Just the list is not a bad place to start. wink.gif

Can you post some of your crash logs? Might be a clue. See Mac OS X: How to log a kernel panic http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2546

Understanding crash logs isn’t easy and it’s hard (sometimes impossible) to decipher the cause of the problem. Take a look at Apple’s Crash Reporter document at http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2004/tn2123.html Also look at Tutorial: An introduction to reading Mac OS X crash reports http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20060309075929717

Kernel panics are usually caused by a hardware problem – frequently RAM, a USB device or a Firewire device. What external devices do you have connected? When trying to troubleshoot problems, disconnect all external devices except your monitor, keyboard and mouse. Do you experience the same problems?

To eliminate RAM being the problem, Look at this link: *Testing RAM* @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.

Do you have an Apple Hardware Test disc? Running the Apple Hardware Test in Loop Mode is an excellent troubleshooting step for finding intermittent hardware problems. It is especially useful when troubleshooting intermittent kernel panics. If Loop Mode is supported by the version of the Apple Hardware Test you are using, you run the Extended Test in Loop Mode by pressing Control-L before starting the test. Looping On should appear in the right window. Then click the Extended Test button. The test will run continuously until a problem is found. If a problem is found, the test will cease to loop, indicating the problem it found. If the test fails, be sure to write down the exact message associated with the failure. In some cases, RAM problems did not show up until nearly 40 loops, so give it a good run.

Tom, I think he's done a lot of that.

Georges, have you tried creating another account and seeing if the crashes still happen there? What do you have in your login items for your current account?

The crash report would make me think that login items are at fault - but do these crashes happen as you're starting up or some time well after doing so?

None of the suggestions worked for the OP in this thread, but worth a try:

This is, admittedly, a long shot but I thought it worth mentioning. Do you have any Symantec programs installed? I ask because I had frequent kernel panics when I had Norton Anti-Virus and Norton Utilities (a long time ago with a different computer and a different OS). The KPs stopped permanently when I uninstalled everything Symantec.

I know that it tests ok, but I don't know how reliable those RAM tests are....

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=351336

Do you have any login items? And have you tried creating another account to see if the crashes continue? If removing login items works or creating and using another user account works, then you would have eliminated a hardware issue. As it stands now, I'm leaning towards hardware as the culprit, despite all the tests that show everything to be fine.

I'm starting to wonder if this DA is just plain defective (ie: logic board issues) OR you've got yet another bad processor upgrade. It does work ok without the upgrades though, doesn't it?

You've been having problems with it since early June....

Running today Firefox in safe mode ... nothing  wrong untill now

After all the testing,  that's maybe the culprit Thinking.gif
