Laguna Seca on Google Earth
« on: July 25, 2010, 02:01:33 AM »
Just been watching MotoGP qualifying and idle curiosity led me to check out the Laguna Seca venue on Google Earth. Street view includes the track! And, apparently, pictures were taken during a race.

Can't begin to imagine how the Google car handled with that camera box on top. Maybe they hired Sabine Schmitz biggrin.gif
See her record lap of Germany's Nurburgring in a Transit van on YouTube (hoping the links work where you are).

Top Gear introduction...
....and the lap. I'd love to have seen the face of the motorcyclist who was overtaken by a Dodge Viper being chased by a Transit van   laughhard.gif

Came through fine, if a little slow...well, it is a van, after all... tongue.gif Great show, wish we had it on this side of the pond!

Even more fun would be to collect some of the 'speedsters' around here and put them on that course...without a seat belt...and maybe some worn out tires (tyres?)... devilishgrin.gif

Long ago and far away..... in another life.... while spending 3 years in Germany at the invitation of my Uncle Sam..... We owned a 1961 silver Jag XKE convertible.
One Saturday a month, they would allow idiots... uh,  regular drivers to drive about Hockenheim raceway, I think 2 laps or until a need for a change of underwear was required...

I did manage 2 laps and to scare myself thoroughly but did not make any messes, either mechanical or bodily.  Did consider going another Saturday but then decided that a leisurely drive through the Black Forest would be much more enjoyable (she decided)...

Thanks for the posts and the memories...
