The coho and the chinook
« on: October 15, 2010, 01:06:47 AM »
Sneakers has had a lifelong dream to catch a salmon, and it's one of the reasons we moved here -- so he could fish. Then he got sick and almost died and now he's well and out fishing, but no go. Until today. Up at oh-dark-thirty, I dropped him off at the dock and he, his fishing bud, Linda, and guide Ryan went up the Alsea River. Sneakers is no longer a "salmon virgin". LOL!

First was the coho, which was "great fun to catch" says Sneakers. Back it went as they aren't legal to keep here. Then the keeper. A nice chinook salmon. And guess what? This baby is bigger than the winning fish from the U-Da-Man competition last weekend. Whoot!

And may I say, I was soooooooo excited for my hubby. When Linda dropped him off, I walked out on the porch and asked how they did and Sneakers held up his prize and I WHOOPED right from the porch. I'm sure most of our neighbors heard me. I was so darn happy for him. Still am. Anyhow, here's some pics of the river at sun up and the fish.

Baked it last night with pepper, paprika and oregano. YUMMY!

Ryan cleaned it while they were on the boat. We just had to cut it up and package the "steaks".

Congrats to Sneakers!

Also glad to hear that he is recovered nicely and getting back into the "action".

Congratulations, Sneakers, on achieving his ambition, and to both on achieving such a long run from the church... smile.gif

Mac looks very healthy as well as happy.

And the scenery can only be described as spectacular. thumbup.gif

Why not?! That would give Sneakers a reason to go fishing every day! yes.gif

Thinking.gif I've had salmon and eggs for breakfast, salmon hash for lunch, and salmon almondine for dinner!  So many salmon, so little time to catch them.  Thanks for sharing and I'll put this on my list of things yet to do!  thumbup.gif

Oh, I've never to bake salmon almondine. I'll add that my list.

If you come out this way during salmon fishing season, Sneakers will be glad to take you up the river. biggrin.gif

Just so it's not in a canoe; my wife has learned the hard way that I don't sit well in a canoe! smile.gif

Not a prob with the canoe, gunug; you wouldn't catch Sneakers on the river with one of those. He doesn’t even us his paddle float in the river.
