It's a lot more informative than you'd expect.

It includes not only:

Introduction

How to Use This Dictionary

American Voices by William A.Kretzschmar,Jr.

How to Read an Etymology by Anatoly Liberman

Key to the Pronunciations

Key to the Abbreviations

But also:

Rules of English: Understanding Grammar

Guide to Spelling

Guide to Capitalization and Punctuation

Words: Making the Right Choices

Clichés

Proofreader's Marks

The History of English

Timeline

States of the United States of America

Presidents of the United States of America

Declaration of Independence

Constitution of the United States of America

Countries of the World

Chemical Elements

Standard Weights and Measures with Metric Equivalents and Conversions

Metric Weights and Measures with Standard Equivalents and Conversions

Alphabets

Also:

Here's another way to access the Dictionary: select a word with the mouse and then press the control, command and "D" keys at the same time. The definition of the word will appear next to it. Very handy.

Sweet. I use the Apple dictionary quite a bit, but I'd never checked out the "GO" menu.

It would be grand if we could make a "user" dictionary and add to it. Also, I used to have a medical dictionary and a Bible dictionary and those would be cool to add to this.

Ahhh ... something to dream about.

I've found OS X's Dictionary able to replace all those 3d party ones we used to find so helpful . . . back in the Bronze Age, and yet I've never heard of the these particular keys-to-kingdom.

As usual, thanks to Kris for these gems - both for finding and posting them. And to RNKiii for reminding me to check-in for more TeeEss "benefits"

Bravo to US.  notworthy.gif

Thank you Kris.

As a translator I am always using Dictionary yet knew little about its hidden treasures.

And my wife who teaches handicapped adults will be thrilled when I show her, again Thanks.

Hmmmmm. I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm not sure that what you heard is what I actually meant!
