While the local station pushed the 'talkies' to their HD service, many of us didn't have those receivers. I do now, but it is about have the size of an iPhone, can only be heard with headphones and is extremely sensitive to a weak signal. Of course, that's the "beauty" of digital signals, they are either have great output or none!
Fortunately, I found another NPR station in Mississippi that is strong enough to be heard well north of my location. And, since it's not digital (although they have one), it can still be heard even if it's a little staticy.
And their programming is almost 180° opposite of the local station. The HD station is about 90% classical music while the analog station is only 10% classical. And, frankly, I just love to hear that Mississippi accent!!
Now that we finally broke down and bought an HD TV, I have discovered many BBC shows that we never could get on the analog cable, namely Top Gear! They also have lots of re-runs of Star Trek...been there...done that...moved on. The trouble with TV, of course, is that you have to actually look at the screen quite often. With radio, you get to use your brain as the image creator!
