Surprised by an Iphone 4
« on: October 22, 2010, 10:56:14 AM »
My wife surprised me an iPhone 4. Just lucky I guess.
I updated it on itunes, using my old profile, but most of my apps did not make the transition. And when i tried to DL them anew, the iPhone says they are installed. I need my radio apps! Thanks!

Not sure this applies in your case...
    1. Open iTunes and connect the old iPhone.
    2. Select the iPhone in the "Devices" list.
    3. Click the "Apps" 'tab' in the main screen.
Does the old iPhone show all its installed apps?

No: I have no idea! eek2.gif

Yes: Select 'File->"Transfer Purchases from wHATEVERyOUnAMEDyOURiPHONE" .' Hopefully, you can disconnect the old iPhone when the transfer is compete and then plug in your new one. Since it probably has very few third-party apps, you should be able to use the "Sync Apps" checkbox. You should get a warning dialog stating something like "All the apps on your iPhone will be replaced with those showing in the iTunes list." Which is what I think you want. Click "OK" and call me in the morning... rofl.gif

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system
CAUTION! Childhood vaccinations cause adults!

The apps mysteriously appeared on own. I had read that could happen. The music is still missing but i can pick and choose that. Love the camera on this thing already.

Thanks Xairbusdriver!
It worked with the apps. The music however has not migrated, even tough i tried to repeat the app steps with the music selected.

It's been years since I put any music on my iPhone, but I thought one simply dragged a playlist/song from its display/sidebar onto the iPhone icon. dntknw.gif As you can see, I'm a real iPhone power uzr! rofl.gif

Well i wanted the the music to move over from the iphone 3. A friend tells me because i manually managed playlists on the old they won't move over. It's no problem as all the stuff is on my iMac. Just have to get around to creating playlists. I need music sometimes because I take the train and some nights it can get noisy. Otherwise I am not a headphones person. For long rides, I also plug the iphone into my car using a cassette (!) adapter. I also listen to internet radio that way. It's amazing what this former audiophile will tolerate.
Anyway, thanks.

I always do the "Manual" sync method, myself. I've never trusted computers doing that sort of thing! blush-anim-cl.gif rofl.gif Of course, I'm the idiot who told iTunes to replace every thing on my iPhone with stuff on my brand new iMac HD which, of course, didn't HAVE anything to update! wallbash.gif rolleyes.gif Fortunately, I was able to get my Contacts and Calendars from Time Machine... whew.gif
