Help:kelly, Bernie, anybody
« on: June 16, 2003, 09:46:45 PM »
Good Evening Gentlemen,

I am unable to get into either of the Topics I started to read your posts.  I deleted Cookies from WebTV thinking it might be that.  I signed in.
I am refering to the Should I Connect Topic and Help Given a Mac Topic.

Any ideas on what is up with this?

Evening Bill,

I don't know if it was coincidence or not, but I tried by passing my email
where I keep the link from TS and did a manual type in to the TS website and I was on again.  I must have waited about half an hour for Pages to load before I gave up on my other two Topics.

Traffic on the internet?  Why don't they just put up a stop or caution light up?

By the way, another TS member told me that dial up modem service slows down his view of the topics that have too many pages; and that's why many people post new topics rather than continuing to post on the original Topic.

For general info to all:
Actually the topics have a maximum number of posts per page anyway, so it shouldn't take any longer to get to a full page whether it is by itself or among a lot of others in a longer discussion. If you note when you arrive at TS that there is sometimes an icon or check mark to the left of the thread title (depends on the skin you are using). Click on that and you will go to the posts in that thread that have been made since your last visit. That will save a lot of time scrolling to find where you left off.

Also a mutiple page thread can be clicked on the last page from the main forum page...1,2,3, etc. Likewise if you open a thread you've been to earlier there should be small text at the beginning that says "jump to unread posts" or something like that. It is best to continue a thread if the problem is not solved, that way the rest of us won't get confused as to what is happening and what suggestions have already been made.

But if it's a new problem then definitely start a new thread as you will get more attention that way.

Well Good Morning krissel,

I think it may be MSN problems.

I noticed after signing out of WebTv / MSN TV, and then signing in again and then manually typing
in the TS web address, it seemed to clear up the problem.
Also, I tried to click on the page number before posting the Topic and all was able to do was sit here for a half an hour watching a very slooowww spinning globe.
As for the view unread posts - it doesn't work for me.  Don't know why.

I imagine that all ISP's have something that goes wrong, but MSN's takeover of WebTv has, in my opinion not improved anything important to me. It seems like I am paying the $ 24.95 a month for less service than what WebTV provided.

That is why I have been looking at other options.
Nice to hear from you and

Mrs. Lop, while you are new to computing, you have in one sentence summarized the whole Microsoft monopoly argument. They buy up or put out of business any potential  competition and bring little or nothing more to the consumer.

Well Good Evening to You,
krissel and Dreambird,

I was beginning to feel a little lonely.

This is what I did.  I couldn't get to any of the Topics to read replies last night.  I decided not to use the click on from my email and just come directly here manually typing the web site address and it worked!

Whatever it was may have been in my mail. Well, not my mail personally, but something to do with that through MSN.  Bypassing it got results.

krissel, my motto is:  Inquiring minds want to know...(fill in the blanks)  Sometimes I just try to use logic or deduction, to figure out things.  Sometimes, coincidence occurs and I have a trauma..like the time I opened up my computer and the PRAM dropped dead! LOL

Afternoon krissel and Dreambird,

When I had pure unadulterated WebTV, it allowed me to hear Audio on most News articles.
When MSN took over, I was informed that I should take the upgrade or I could lose out on some
"wonderful" better features.  Gullible me took the enhanced "Upgrade" and I lost the ability to hear any Audio News clips.
I also have more problems with getting into and using other sites with my using links from my email.  I have to continually bypass my email links before coming to this site.
As I said "...same amount paid for less service"
I don't care much for their discussions, or the mental gymnastics that I have to go through in using some of their features either.
They have MSNBC news  appearing on my main screen which is okay, but not top notch news coverage.  They continually change features and put wha is left in strange places.
I could go on, but I am sure that you get the point. jawdrop.gif
