Explorer 5.1 Acting Hinky...
« on: June 18, 2003, 09:53:42 PM »
Explorer 5.1 has begun to act strangely on a CRT iMac running 9.2.  The home page loads and then That's It: no scrolling allowed and I have to do a force quit.

I tried dumping the app and reinstalling it, but upon restart the same problem occured.  I usually suspect a corrupted preference file in this kind of situation, but heck if I can find said file(s) in the System folder.  I figure that the old prefs files are still in play because the first time I started-up the new app the home page was my normal one and not the default home page.

So if someone would kindly point me in the right direction I will try dumping the preferences and see if that makes a difference.  And, of course, any other suggestions will be welcome...

Wellll! You might check System Folder>Preferences>Explorer. Just remember before you trash this folder, it contains your Favorites file and you might want to pull it out of there before trashing. smile.gif  Have you rebuilt the Desttop and Zapped the PRAM?

Clay, I did all three things and now it appears to work.  Thanks for reminding me about those basic fixes; I have had so few problems with OS 9 and my iBook that I just don't do the maintenance thing like I once did.

I also zapped and rebuilt on the iBook, and now both Macs exhibit the same behavior:  Airport is no longer turned on automatically when the Macs boot.  The control strip module says it is on, but I have to turn it off, then on again.  I have had this problem in the past but I had not associated it with zapping the PRAM or a desktop rebuild.  Eventually Airport operates normally and to this day I have no idea what happens that makes it start operating automatically.  Strange!

The other weird thing is that Eudora is now asking to be registered on the iMac.  There is probably some reasonable explanation, but heck if I know what it is.
