Looks like they made peace with "the enemy".

Are you happier now? smile.gif

Hi Kelly - yup, I noticed. I would have been astonished if they hadn't included them - USB 2 is showing up everywhere now. Since it's backward compatible, it doesn't make much sense to continue holding out!

Still curious as to why they didn't include provision for a second optical drive though, since they had it in the latest G4's. When you look at the inside of the G5, there is clearly no room the way it is laid out - maybe all those fans took up too much space?? wink.gif

Oh well, no matter. I've never had two internal optical drives in anything - the CDRW in my old PC doesn't work (haven't spent any time on it either) so why start now? Or... whenever I can afford one of these lovely beasts! My eleven year old watched the video on the Apple site and declared that we HAD to get one. rolleyes.gif Ah, the power of advertising...

I was surprised to hear about USB 2.0.  Isn't that direct competition with firewire?  It's good news for us, since more products will be compatible.

Yes, and no, Dan. For some things, Firewire is simply much better - video for example. For other, less critical applications, USB 2.0 is fine. For some comparisons and thoughts on the issue:

Firewire 800 and USB 2.0 - best of both worlds, in my book! And apparently, Apple's too. smile.gif

Interesting articles, Paddy.

It seems that USB 2's low price will be the deciding factor, and the low price is probably why Apple included it.  I think they need Firewire 2 to catch on.
