Having difficulty in publishing to my iWeb site. On looking at my settings there is a test button which when pressed tells me that all is ok and I can now upload any changes made in the editing section, however when I activate "publish"
I'm told that I can continue to work as normal whilst uploading is in progress. Approx. 5 mins later up pops the error message saying "Publish Error. There was an error communicating with the FTP server.Try later or check with service provider." My service provider (British Telecom) tells me there is nothing wrong therefore I must assume the fault lies with me. Is there an iWeb log? and if so where be it that I might have a look at it.
George
ps. I can log on to my iWeb site but sadly can not bring it up to date.

You might try using Console. Select "All Messages" or "Console Messages" or "Diagnostic and Usage Messages" and enter iWeb in the search field.

You might want to follow the activity, while uploading, in Activity Monitor, also.

George, is there a setting in iWeb for "passive FTP"? Quite a few hosts require it - and that may be the only problem.

Apparently the setting isn't in iWeb itself, it's in your network settings:

System Preferences -> Network -> (interface) -> Proxies -> Use Passive FTP and I just checked mine and it's checked by default. You could, of course try UNchecking it too - sometimes that works!

All Apple apps use this setting to determine whether or not to use passive FTP for connections. Other (third-party) clients typically have their own setting.

A lot of people complain about iWeb's built in FTP (and Dreamweaver's built in FTP too, for that matter) - you could try Filezilla or Transmit, or FireFTP (extension for Firefox) and publish to a folder and then use the 3rd party FTP. Lots of people find that works very well.

http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWeb_Folder_FTP.html - directions towards the bottom for that option.
