Photo CD not readable
« on: June 21, 2003, 12:47:07 PM »
My son recently returned from the East Coast with a bunch of photos on a CD which was not readable by  my iMac. This was a surprise since he had previously taken some european pix on CDs which we did read on the iMac. So we got those down and tried them, and surprise, surprise, they were not readable by the iMac!!!

What could I have done to spoil the ability of my iMac to read those CDs? I cannot remember doing any deleting or trashing of apps or software, I still have the original Quicktime and PictureView,  etc.

He thinks it may be due to his  photo CD Windows software (Nero), but I doubt it, since he has always had a PC, and his CD pix have always worked on my iMac.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks, nels96

What operating system and version?

In OS 9 you need Apple Photo Access extension in your System/Extensions folder.

In OS X you need v. 10.2.x, earlier versions could not read the Photo CD format.

It's not the applications, the system needs to recognize the PhotoCD file system.

Thanks, kps

I do have Apple Photo Access. And I have Quicktime and PictureViewer.

And I have previously viewed CD photos on my iMac, so I must have done something wrong. But what could it be???
