We need a "Lo-Tech" forum!
« on: January 31, 2011, 07:29:57 PM »
While looking around at Aperture tutorials (since it is so cheap, right now) I came across lots of info from people who are real photographers, apparently, that's who Aperture. Who'd a thunk! While that leaves my wallet 80 bucks lighter, I did find something useful AND inexpensive AND low-tech! And it just might help some do-it-yourselfer's get started on the "real photographer" career path! clap.gif
<Likea Replica Pinhole Camera>
No, it's not made by those camera people in Germany...

It seems to me that Aperture is a photo 'adjustment' tool rather than an 'image' editor. From the tutorials I saw, the first thing you need is a beautiful picture! Probably one taken with a great camera, saved in RAW and that somehow didn't get the desired white balance/color tint/exposure/etc. perfect. And, perhaps one that needs a slight amount of cropping. If I could take pictures/capture images like the ones in the tutorials, I'd be more than happy with just those! laughhard.gif

OTOH, one fellow downloaded 50 odd images that represented an average shooting session. Most of the time, I'm lucky to get three snapshots to work with! And, I'm not above taking parts of a body in one shot and pasting it into one of the other images!! blush-anim-cl.gif Sometimes it's impossible to get six people to have their eyes open at the same time! rolleyes.gif It is great if I can just get them all to look at the camera at the same time! yes.gif Of course, these are not 'candid' shots, more of an archiving project, but everyone is always in a hurry...

A friend of mine does photography - among other things.  Here are some of his "pinhole pix"...

I've been working on taking more pictures with my new to me Pentax.  So far just black and white and nothing to get excited about!

A good discussion on Aperture's capabilities and why it might be useful even to those who don't shoot in RAW:

Re: pinhole camera....film will become a problem if it isn't already. Finding it, printing it...

So, an enterprising soul has got the solution! Turn your Canon EOS 1Ds into a pinhole camera! toothgrin.gif

Hi,

On the general topic of photography I found and purchased an inexpensive app called "123di".
It is interactive and takes you through all (as far as I can see) aspects of photography.

It has certainly helped me. I'm not sure but I think that a demo version exists on their site.

Maybe we're just a back-water area, but the Walgreen's pharmacy chain still offers roll film developing, at least 35mm. I think Wally World does, also. They may send the rolls off to some place. dntknw.gif On the other hand, developing chemicals are still available and it's not that difficult to do, even for kids! Might be a few 'teaching' moments there, also! Chemistry, History, Science, etc. Besides, the whole point (not to put too fine a pin on it Groaner.gif ) is to do this stuff yourself and have fun! Frankly, there may not be too much demand for actual prints, anyway! blush-anim-cl.gif

As for film mounting, perhaps something like <this>would be "valuable?" Thinking.gif

As for a discussion of Aperture, perhaps something in <this section> of Apple's forums might include the link you intended to post? The thread I get with your seems more concerned with WiFi. dntknw.gif wink.gif Furst mizteake uv thu yeer?
