Diagnosing OS 9 app problem
« on: June 20, 2003, 07:37:35 AM »
I have a program which has not been updated to OS X. It runs fine for me in my OS9.2 partition, but when I try it in Classic, there are problems.

It tells me that there are errors loading some elements and some features don't work in Classic.

I suspect it is looking for some of the dozens of extensions which my 9.2 partition has, but that I'm not using in Classic. If so, is there a reasonably simple way to figure out how to make the app happy?

The app in question is Proview 2.1, a web site building program which I used to use a lot. Now I hardly ever use it, but some of my older sites were built on it and it would be easier to use it again to revise them. But it's a pain to reboot into the 9.2 partition each time.

I have re-installed it in Classic with no luck.

The problem with copying extensions from one partition to the other is that over the years of using OS9 I accumulated so many.

I've worked to keep my Classic extensions to a minimum.

It seems that my problem now is not knowing which specific extensions Proview is looking for.

I'm pretty sure it will work in Classic since only a few problems arise now when I try to use it there.

If you suspect extensions (or lack thereof) might be the problem, why not select your OS9 partition as your classic system since the app. works okay from there...I have always had my OS 9.2.2 partition selected as my classic system and I still run several PPC applications from OSX...although, as Kelly said, I do have a few that cannot run while booted in OSX.
