Macbook Air running faster with cover closed?

I don't know if this is true; we've only got two Air's and I think only one is in use:

Want to Speed Up Your MacBook Air?
Try a BookArc. Really.

BookArc for MacBook Air is more than a beautifully designed stand for your Mac. If you work with an external monitor, BookArc can actually improve the performance of MacBook Air. How? When you work with two monitors, your Mac’s video memory is split between the two, but when you work with your MacBook closed, your Mac only has to power the external display. You will notice an increase in speed, especially when working in Photoshop, Aperture, iPhoto and other graphics-intensive apps. So can a notebook stand really speed up your MacBook? If it’s a BookArc, the answer is yes

Any takers?

The same company sells a little shelf to stick on the back of the stand of your iMAC:

They've also got "cases" for iPads made out of old leatherbound books!

I'm sure it doesn't run faster closed with a single external display than it does open with just its own display, though. It's a silly advertising come-on, if there ever was one - definitely playing on people's ignorance of the capabilities of current Mac laptops. It's the equivalent of saying your car gets better mileage with one person in it than it does with two, so buy our special people-ejector to get rid of that pesky other person...(you know, instead of just asking them to step out of the car...) doh.gif

All current Mac laptops work in closed lid mode - you do NOT need a laptop stand for that! Of course, if you want to recover the desk real estate, they're handy, but that's about it.
