Roger, Roger, Roger--you're looking at this all wrong! I'm shocked that you of all the members of TS, don't see this in a positive light! Afterall, the inability to get a cell phone that works anywhere at anytime is what unites us all! It doesn't matter if you're a 16 year old kid using a prepaid plan on a phone bought at the local 7-11, or Woz with all his money and intellect--cell phones have become the great equalizer. We're all on a level playing field when it comes to this problem.

I defy any of you to be able to make a connection on your wireless phone from the frozen food aisle of my local ACME. Especially if you urgently need to speak to your spouse because they're out of "Brand X" ice cream and you don't know what the rest of the family will tolerate. (This is always a major issue when a major snow storm is pending.)

Or if there's a major problem effecting lots of people that comes on unexpectedly--again--like a big storm--we all get "I'm sorry, all circuits are busy" when you urgently need to reach somebody. (It's ironic, because that was the original purpose that most of bought the darn phone for to begin with.) Or when I'm stuck with people of all races, classes, etc underground on a broken down train and need to call home to tell somebody I'll be late, etc--all of us have our phones on--and NONE of us can use the thing until we're above ground--not the substance abusing person sharing the seat with me, or the professional with the briefcase. And why is it that you never see the "Can you hear me now?" guy on a subway?????

So Roger, I rejoice in my knowledge that while Woz can use his phone in his supermarket, I can use my phone in my own house.

You would think that with all his money and connections in the tech world... he could just pay to have a tower put in near his home

Hey Rob, which is your local Acme. I'll give it a try. I like complaining to Verizon.

Bob, we need to get you out more!    To answer your question, Harbison Ave and Roosevelt Blvd.  BTW, it's not always the frozen food aisle--but that's the one I seem to notice it most in.

Try walking into a Verizon store while talking on your cell and you get a drop call.
That went over real well with the folks inside!

Rob, Rob, Rob - you must think I'm some kind of old Socialist. While I appreciate the imagery of us all being equally put upon by the telcos, I suspect the solutions available may be somewhat different.

As an aside, I own and operate a business. Haven't had anyone sign a paycheck for me since, hmmmm thinking.
Believe it was 1978 or so.

Speaking of paychecks, anyone hear about Chelsea's first job?

I'm ever so Grateful (which is better than being Dead) that we live in an egalitarian world; a world where what you know is valued over who you know.

From the Guardian: (a British daily)

CHELSEA SEEKS HER FIRST JOB

Chelsea Clinton has been offered a job as a management consultant at McKinsey's, reports the Telegraph, and will probably accept it. The Times says Ms Clinton, who will complete a master's degree at Oxford in the summer, is likely to join the firm's New York offices on a
starting salary of USD $100,000 (GBP64,500).

"You do not just work for McKinsey & Company," warns the Telegraph.
"You speak McKinsey, socialise with other McKinsey-ites and onlyvisit your family and friends as an afterthought if there is a rare'window' in your diary."

Before you Clinton bashers get into it; remember how Dubya got into Yale!

-R

By the way - I would consider this social not political commentary, privilege IS privilege.

Hey Roger, does this mean you won't get into a bidding war for Chelsea's services?? Don't feel bad for her--we all had to pay our dues when we got started.

Only an old Celtics' fan would make a comment like that.
