Upgrade an old Titanium
« on: August 07, 2011, 03:10:03 PM »
My apologies in advance, but I just don't mess with Macs too often at all anymore.

I've got a client who has an old Titanium PowerBook with OS X.2.8 and I've got a copy of 10.3 that I don't use and would at least like to get him to that.

Are there any land mines doing an archive and install from 10.2.8 to 10.3 that I'm not remembering......?

Thanks in advance and if there are any TSers still around from the old days, well, HEY!

I have no idea about any 'land mines' but I do hope you will be using retail install disks. The ones that may have come with your Mac probably won't work on his. I think the grey colored disks are what usually came with all Mac's. They were usually machine specific. Retail disks, on the other hand are black and will work with any machine that meets the requirements Apple set for that version of the OS. Should be easy to tell if the disks will work or not, just stick it in the drive and try to use the installer! laughhard.gif

Thanks, ABD.

I have a set of discs I used before that are grey but aren't necessarily machine-specific.

I know they work on other machines because I used to use it on my old Blue & White G3.......

I just couldn't remember if there were any caveats to the archive and install. From what I remembered, it just backed up the copy of the previous system folder and then created a fresh new one with the rest of the info remaining intact.

I just didn't want it to bust any functionality of any of the apps he has on the machine.....

Take care!
