OS 10.7 Lion Users/Library folder
« on: August 29, 2011, 08:20:32 AM »
iMac Intel i3 21.5" OS 10.7.1

In OS 10.7 Lion, what Terminal Command line is required to make the Users/Library folder visible?

By the way, why is it that Apple chose to make this folder invisible? Does anybody know?

Thanks.

OK. Found it.

The way to make the OS 10.7 Lion Users/Library folder visible is to open the Terminal application
and type the following command line,

chflags nohidden ~/Library

followed by a Return.

And to make the Users/Library folder invisible again, in the Terminal application
type the following command line

chflags hidden ~/Library

followed by a Return.

Not sure where you searched but it has been posted at TS I'm pretty sure.

As for why they did it, the theory (since that's really all we have to go on) is that it is to help avoid people from doing things they shouldn't. The theory has many doubters since it is no problem to view the System/Library which many would consider slightly more dangerous? laughhard.gif eek2.gif

OTOH, I have noticed that my normal method of archiving before making updates is slightly different in Lion. While the menu commands for duplicating or archiving an item in the System seem to be working, it took me a few tries before I noticed that the duplicates were actually being placed on my Desktop. dntknw.gif

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system
