What would be the best  choice (and price )  for an Intel Mac , just  for  the Web...

To replace an Emac  1,2 Ghz

If you have a spare keyboard, mouse and monitor, a Mini might be your best bet. Otherwise, the low-end iMac would be ideal, unless you prefer a laptop. Look into refurbs from Apple.

Don't buy anything less than a Core 2 Duo anything for compatibility with current versions of OS X (i.e.: Lion) Avoid Core Duos for instance - they won't run Lion. Make sure whatever you choose takes adequate amounts of RAM. I wouldn't buy anything that takes less than 4 GB these days. 2 GB is the minimum for Lion, but I know from experience that 2 GB on this MBP is dog-slow, even for just web browsing, email and word processing, and there are zillions of page ins and page outs (i.e.: it's struggling). I just installed 4GB - of which 3.3 is actually usable because of the age of this machine, and it's made a huge difference.

A Mini would be fine, if you have a suitable monitor (with suitable connectors - it depends on the Mini) - as would a 21" iMac. What is your budget (in Euros)? I've had a quick look at eBay France and there are a few iMacs and Minis for sale that might fit the bill. Do you have any other good source of used equipment, preferably local so you can try it out before parting with your money? There is a French Craigslist.org, with quite a few cities listed - can't remember exactly where you are. Obviously, be very careful - NEVER, EVER wire or send anyone money for a Craigslist listing (those are always scams); you should always deal face to face and preferably in a public, safe place - or if going to someone's apt./house, take a friend or two with you.

Maybe it's not very important for my wife to  run Lion... just to browse the the web , working on ebay etc...

What do you think?

To run some programs, must be an intel Imac , what was the first one, what do you suggest?

Are  SD  and DW  compatible?

ADSR, even if you don't want to run Lion right now, I'd strongly advise you NOT to buy anything that won't run Lion. Otherwise, you're just buying something that is already obsolete and cannot be upgraded. Eventually, you'll start to run into the same problems with it (outdated browsers etc.) that anyone still trying to run OS 9 run into - or even anyone running early versions of OS X. There are plenty of Core 2 Duo machines out there - just avoid the Core Duos. Get the best one you can afford for the greatest forward compatibility.

Are you asking if SuperDuper! and DiskWarrior are compatible with each other? I've not experienced any difficulties with either - of course, DW is only run/used when there are directory errors and SD (in my case) is used daily for backups; it's not as if they're being used simultaneously. Both have versions that run under Lion as well.

Was talking about SD, DW  Lion's compatibility, so that's ok.

Is Lion an upgrade  from Leopard or a new system,...?

So any  Imac Core 2 Duo  model should be ok

It's the latest version of OS X, so it's an upgrade to everything earlier. However, at the present time, there are only three ways to get Lion:

This link has the info explaining what you need and how to upgrade to Lion, should you decide to do that. Frankly, if money is tight, I'd spend it on a RAM upgrade. No matter what OS you run, it will be better with more RAM. OTOH, SL is only $30 and then you can get Lion for just another $30.

But don't forget to check what apps you use now that have not been updated to run on Lion. That should mainly be PPC apps (open System Profiler, select Applications and you'll see a list of apps and one column will show what cpu it uses), very few of those still being maintained. And the majority of apps will run with Snow Leopard, even PPC ones.

As I understand it, FF is telling you that the link is invalid. If you looked at the url in a browser, you would have seen that there were two "http:" parts and an extra "'" at the end. You can edit anything in the URL and press return again until you get it to work, assuming that most of the errors are recognizable. Meye sekund mistake wuz knot testing thee linque. wallbash.gif
