...in Lion, anyway and you did pay form them... Probably most in the same place with Snow Leopard.
Look in /System/Library/CoreServices. Maybe half the files in there are suffixed with ".app" Most are used by various System controlled functions but some actually have a 'face'/window and controls you can use yourself.
The one I was pointed to, WiFi Diagnostic.app, could come in handy if you your wireless connections.
A similar one (that you may have seen before when setting up your Internet connection) is Network Diagnostic.app
Then there's Ticket Viewer.app. I didn't even remember getting a ticket! 
There are dozens more, but you can look at the list there as well as here.
One rather surprising file is called "bps" no ".app" or anything else, but it looks like a shell script... I doubt if it has a live feed from the TV Network.
I'm not suggesting that you "mess" with any of these files/apps, just adds some trivia knowledge as to where a lot of apps live. BTW, one app I saw there was mentioned in another thread today, loginwindow.app. I wonder what ZoomWindo.app does.
