I've had enough of Facebook.

Can anyone tell me how to disengage?

The most important steps are to never access Facebook again. Ever. That includes clicking any "Like" buttons on other sites; at least the ones that look like this :[attachment=2513:facebook_link.gif] Not for two weeks, two months, two years, two millennia! I wouldn't even bother with the "send Facebook an email" step. Finally, don't be surprised if your data is not actually deleted. There are reports that FB is just a wee bit slow in actually removing this stuff...like a couple of years slow.

Seems like everybody has a FaceBook page now.
I dont like it either, but its sort of part of life now.
Even our local dog shelter has an account with it!

I added in a Firefox plugin that "fixes" the timeline view in Facebook so you don't have to look at it if you don't want to. It helped and I do use Facebook to keep track of my cousins and somewhat Aunts and Uncles. Don't really want people from work or friends; although I had the oldest friend I'm still in touch with ask me to friend him today. I told him that I'm thinking about dropping out because Facebook assumptions aren't mine, the Facebook universe isn't my universe (probably too old)!

You're not far off from the truth. The total number of people using Facebook right now is higher than the total number of people who existed on the entire planet in 1812.

My neighbour's cat even has his Facebook page, and my dog has her own blog.
Though both of them have an awful time learning how to type, or play the Roland keyboard.

Thanks so much for all of your responses. But for now, I'm staying with Facebook.

As my sweet wife says, "It's the only way we can keep up with what the kids and grandkids are doing." She's right. of course.
